Introduction

Kyocera will be responsible for developing a massive floating solar farm located in Yamakura Reservoir, in Japan’s Chiba region. Mega solar projects are expanding faster than local governments can manage, raising major concerns for landscapes, wildlife, and nearby communities. Under the new Takaichi Cabinet, Japan is set to tighten regulations on large-scale solar power plants, also known as "mega solar" projects. This is a country that has built entire airports on man-made islands (hello, Kansai International Airport!), turned vertical farming into an art form, and now, they’re taking renewable energy to the next level—literally floating it on water. Since 2012, several solar facilities have been constructed in the area around Kushiro-shitsugen National Park in Japan, which the locals call a "sea of megasolar farms" (メガソーラーの, Megasōrā no Umi).
