Introduction
AES brings 1 GW of solar + storage online in California, and full buildout will be the largest of its kind in the US by 2026. The 1,000-megawatt (MW) Bellefield 1 project in Kern County, California, includes 500 MW of solar and 500 MW of four-hour battery storage, all under a 15-year contract with Amazon. The solar portion provides 384 MW of power capacity, while the energy storage component provides 150 MW/600 MWh of power and energy storage capacity. The California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved the Darden Clean Energy Project, which the agency said is the first to be fast-tracked under the group’s Opt-In Certification program.
