Introduction
Based on the review performed in this study, several promising innovative PSH technologies have been identified: submersible pump-turbines and motor-generators, geomechanical PSH, open-pit mine PSH, and hybrid PSH technologies. It is a configuration of two water reservoirs at different elevations that can generate power as water moves down from one to the other (discharge), passing through a turbine. Pumped storage hydropower (PSH) is a form of clean energy storage that is ideal for electricity grid reliability and stability. As the Pacific Northwest seeks to transition to 100% renewable energy, reliance on wind and solar energy raises concerns about variable electricity supply.
