Introduction
Each tube contains an absorber coating and is evacuated to create a vacuum, which virtually eliminates conductive and convective heat loss. This design allows for superior performance in a wider range of conditions, including colder climates and periods of low sunlight or diffuse. To eliminate unwanted algae growth in passive solar heat storage tube water, add copper sulfate at the rate recommended by the manufacturer (about 1 gram per 250 gallons). Note copper sulfate is a corrosive chemical, harmful to metal and hazardous to humans and toxic to fish in its concentrated. The evacuated tube collector is made up of three main components: an evacuated glass tube with a selective coating that optimizes absorption, aluminum fins that transfer the heat inside the tube to a copper heat pipe, and a heat pipe which transfers this heat to the water.
